North Grand Streetscape Improvement Project
Re-defining the Street Character
A local Neighborhood Association was concerned about their major commercial street that is vital to their ongoing businesses as well as maintaining its sense of safety for the neighborhood. The place has been deteriorating due to a lack of aesthetics and streetscape image leading to business closures and loss of perceived safety. The concern was brought to the attention of City Officials by a group of concerned citizens. The project concept involved uplifting the image of the street through abutting buildings’ facade design, signage control, and streetscape improvement with proposed sidewalks, street furniture, re-configuring on-street parking for cars, decorative lamps, window planters, green buffer strips, bump-outs, ramps, and defined pedestrian crosswalks.
